Container Challenge Complete!

Congratulations to Martin and Steve on completing their container challenge on Friday 17th February.  Martin and Steve worked incredibly hard to unload the 2,182 cases from container by hand, it’s safe to say both found it a lot harder than they expected.

The challenge was to unload the container in less than 3 hours.  With 5 minutes remaining the final full pallet was ready to be pulled off when disaster struck, the pallet broke!  This pallet had to be unloaded and then re-stacked sending the pair 3 minutes over their target time.

Day Two – Celebrating 21 years of disposable paper

Our celebrations didn’t stop on day one, so what better than to kick the second day off than in the middle of the beautiful Herefordshire countryside with no sight of civilisation around us. With an added bonus on the campsite, a field kitchen drove in and set up within minutes to cook each of the 40 team members a full English breakfast. We didn’t know it yet but it would definitely prepare us for the challenging day ahead.

Filled with breakfast we were ready to take on anything and started our journey on the coach.

With many of us over the next hour peering out of the window searching for clues, we finally set sights on the Go Ape course. Nestled in the heart of the Forest of Dean all four teams headed by the directors of ESP tackled 806 meters swinging through the tree tops.

The longest zip wire was attempted with difficulty and measured 180 metres long with the highest point reaching 15 metres meaning most of us landed on our backsides. We were very nervous and some were afraid of heights but with everyone encouraging each other we managed to battle our way through and complete the course.

At the end of the day The Red Team – Team Theakston were crowned over all winners for the whole weekend. A fun day was certainly had by all!

The afternoon then saw us eat lunch before heading back home for a much earned bath!

Over the two day adventure a few of our team had some great words to say:

“Being able to interact with people that we don’t work with day to day, in a setting where we get to act like kids again, was one of the highlights of my year!”

“Swinging from trees, dancing around a fire, kayaking along the tranquility that is the Wye! Swallows and Amazons had nothing on our ESP Birthday weekend celebrations!”

We at ESP are proud to be a local employer and with a family of 50 team members we are proud to say we are all friends. Although we have fun, we strive in our hard work ethic and determination to develop a national presence for our business.

Till next time,

Day One – Celebrating 21 years of disposable paper

ESP has a lot to celebrate this year; with 21 years of business behind us and an incredible amount of disposable paper produced, our management team decided to reward our hard work with a Mystery 21st Birthday Celebration.

We pride ourselves on delivering our customers’ a first class service and high quality products whilst maintaining and continuing to increase our profile. With continued investment into successfully expanding our business, our hard work always comes with some well deserved fun.

With the team being a little unconventional, we knew the mystery was going to be different! We were collected from the Malvern Head Office and driven to our first mystery location… a supermarket car park!  All of the team seemed a little confused until we noticed the river running along the bottom of the car park, with a team of canoeists setting out our next mode of transport!

Paddling down the River Wye was a great experience; many of the team had never canoed before and were ducks to water (cool, calm and collected on the surface but paddling like crazy under the water!)

Arriving at our destination; a field full of Tepees and a sports day track greeted us; this definitely got us in high spirits for a fun packed adventure.

If that wasn’t enough, a sumptuous BBQ dinner, spooky team ghost stories around the camp fire and the announcement of the following day’s activities provided some further entertainment and great stories to bring back to the office.

Read our next blog to find out what happened on Day 2!

Let us introduce you to some of our team:

Who knew working for ESP could be this much fun?

Acorns Children’s Hospice receives donation boost

Acorns Children’s Hospice received a donation of sports day equipment from Essential Supply Products Ltd (ESP).  ESP celebrated their 21st year of trading this year and treated all of the team to a sporting weekend away.  As part of this adventure the team took part in school sports day events ranging from hula hooping to the classic egg and spoon race.  Now the event is over, ESP wanted to ensure that the games were enjoyed by others and have donated them to the Acorns Children’s Hospice, where they can be enjoyed by families and children alike, or used to raise much needed funds for the charity.

Acorns Children’s Hospice provide care and support for children and young people who have life limiting or life threatening conditions.  This means they are unlikely to reach adulthood.  The hospices are designed to be a home-from home to help children enjoy their stay and make the most of every day.  Games rooms, soft-play areas, gardens and lots of toys help to ensure a happy stay.  The hospices have therapeutic facilities such as hydrotherapy pools and multi-sensory rooms.  Special adolescent wings ensure privacy for older children.

Birmingham home from home receives donation boost

Staff and volunteers at Ronald McDonald House Birmingham received a much-needed and very welcome boost this October – a year’s supply of toilet roll, kitchen roll and blue centrefeed from Midlands-based disposable tissue manufacturer ESP (Essential Supply Products Ltd).

The Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham is a 60 bedroom “home away from home” for families with children being treated at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.  The House is available to families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and enables families to stay together during difficult times.  The House relies on the goodwill and generosity of volunteers to keep it running efficiently.

ESP was delighted to donate the products to such a worthy cause after a request from Martin Loader.  Martin’s son Chris works for ESP and approached his employers as, during a visit to the House, he had seen on the House’s wish list a need for toilet rolls and kitchen rolls.  Martin and his family have been using the facilities offered at the House for the past few months while their grandson, Lewis, has been receiving treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.  Lewis was admitted in May 2011 with a brain tumour, which turned out to be malignant cancer called Medulloblastma. Lewis is now undergoing aggressive radiotherapy. Having his family near to him, thanks to Ronald McDonald House Birmingham, has helped enormously says the family.

ESP’s Managing Director, Steve Briggs, says: “It’s so important to remember the benefit that these essential items provide and we were delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile cause.  Every penny the charity saves on purchases allows more money to be directed towards the support of the families and helps them to remain close to their children.”
